City of Chicago: Pharmaceutical Representative License Rules Finalized

In November, 2016, the Chicago City Council passed an ordinance which will require the licensure of pharmaceutical representatives who conduct business in Chicago. This ordinance went into effect on July 1, 2017.

The City of Chicago has finalized its rules regarding the new pharmaceutical representative licensure requirement. The rules are available at (https://www.cityofchicago.org/content/dam/city/depts/dol/rulesandregs/PharmaRepLicenseRules6.1.17Final.pdf).

The rules define the requirements for pharmaceutical representatives who market or promote pharmaceuticals to healthcare professionals in the city of Chicago. The rules also define who is excluded from these rules. For those required to obtain a license, there will be an annual education requirement and disclosure/reporting requirements as well as a defined ethical standard. The rules also describe complaint and violation protocol and related fines.

CMR Institute offers courses to satisfy the continuing education requirements mandated by the City of Chicago Ordinance that requires licensing and continuing education for all pharmaceutical sales personnel who must meet specific requirements set by the City of Chicago.
