CMR Institute and Virginia Tech have built an alliance that provides CMR Institute students a unique opportunity to transfer 12 ACE recommended graduate level credits toward a Master of Arts in Instructional Design. This leaves students with only 18 remaining credits to achieve this degree.

The Master of Arts in Instructional Design and Technology is designed to meet the needs of learning professionals across job sectors, including K-12 educators, community college and higher education personnel, as well as corporate trainers and other instructional development professionals outside of the academic realm.  This well respected program is a 30 credit program which focuses on the creation of effective solutions to support learning and improved performance.

Courses in this program are primarily self-paced with few absolute deadlines, providing maximum flexibility for completion of work.

Assessment of student work is conducted on two levels:

  • Instructional module level (through course-related activities)
  • Program level (through summative review of the student’s electronic portfolio)

The Master of Arts in Instructional Design and Technology program accepts 12 transfer credits from any of the ACE-approved CMR coursework providing that it has been completed no more than five years prior to VT program admission. Both programs provide students with the convenience of courses delivered electronically through the World Wide Web.  In order to provide the most flexible learning experience possible, all courses are available every semester.

The following courses will be considered for transfer to the Master of Arts in Instructional Design and Technology:

In 2006, the ACE recommended new credit values for CMR Institute coursework. Courses completed and/or registered for prior to 9/2006 will have previous credit values recognized, provided the examination was not passed more than five years ago and provided that the examination was passed with an 80% or better score. After 9/2006, to obtain graduate credit, CMRI students must register in the graduate level version of the course, complete the evaluative requirements and pass the final examination with an 80% or better score. Please click here to see credit values; Contact the Institute for advising.
