Growth and Evolution
Growth in Students and Services:
In its early years, CMR Institute supported only a few hundred students. Today, we serve more than 12,000 students annually through a team of student advisors and a full service learning management system.
Evolution of Products:
From its early days of offering courses in print only, CMR Institute has evolved to offering our courses in multiple modalities to meet the changing needs of learners. Today, courses can be delivered in print, audio, and through e-learning that incorporates various rich multimedia and can be accessed through the web or hosted on a company’s learning management system.
Evolution of the Curriculum:
The early CMR Institute curriculum was similar to that of a college program and included courses such as anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, drug interactions, biochemistry, economics, and psychology.
As the focus of pharmaceutical representative education shifted to include new, improved methods of learning and encompass a need for more comprehensive science-based education, our curriculum underwent a major transformation and soon included courses on every body system as well as courses on pharmaceutical research and pharmacology.
As the healthcare marketplace began its evolution in the early 90’s towards an emphasis on cost-containment strategies such as capitation and managed care, CMR Institute responded with the first courses in the industry on Managed Healthcare and Pharmacoeconomics. This focus continues today and has evolved to also include newer trends such as Evidence-Based Medicine.
As the business side of healthcare became more prominent in the mid-90’s and beyond, CMR Institute responded with a new curriculum to help representatives understand and meet the business challenges of their clinician customers with courses such as Business and Management Strategies in Healthcare and Outcomes: Measurement, Management and Marketing.
In recent years, there has been increased focus on ethics and compliance in healthcare including the demonstration of transparency and the application of ethical business practices. CMR Institute responded to this market need with courses such as Business Ethics in the Biopharmaceutical Industry and Ethics and Compliance.
Our curriculum today encompasses an extensive library of resources that cover more than 400 topic areas, ranging from science and medicine to disease management, to the business of healthcare to pharmaceutical management.
